Detangling Demystified
With so many different combs and brushes on the market, how do you choose the right one for you? We present our straightforward guide to those basic tools of the trade.
- The smoothing brush – This is a soft-bristled brush like the one your grandma probably had on her dressing table. Smoothing brushes are ideal for mid to long lengths, and natural bristled varieties are brilliant for making coarse hair shiny.
- The round brush – This is a cylindrical brush with bristles all the way around. Round brushes are great for creating flicks, turning ends under and adding body while still leaving locks sleek and sexy.
- The paddle brush – This brush has a large square head of bristles and can be used on short or long hair to get a perfectly groomed style. The large head has soft pins to massage the scalp and is kind to damp tresses too.
- The vent brush – With its wide spaced pins and holes in its head, vent brushes are designed to lift hair away from the scalp, activating any product near the roots. Good ventilation means that drying is quick and easy.
- The detangling comb – This a wide-toothed comb often used to detangle wet hair or to comb through conditioner. Its soft, rounded pins mean that snagging and breakage can be largely avoided.
- All-rounder comb – With their narrow spaced pins, all-rounder combs are good for everything from sectioning and creating the perfect parting to fashioning fabulous updos. And they are light enough for your handbag too!
